Daridorexant is a relatively new medication for insomnia!

Post by Malakus

It has a unique mechanism of action. As an orexin receptor antagonist, it inhibits orexin's wakefulness-promoting effect. The main symptoms of narcolepsy are caused by a lack of orexin, as these patients have no or only limited endogenous orexin production. It is an obscure drug because it is prohibitively expensive and is not prescribed by almost all doctors; even though it is currently the safest and best way to treat insomnia (compared to other hypnotics with abuse potential, such as benzodiazepine and z-drugs), it is not widely prescribed for it.

It's like anti-modafinil! I've wondered when drugs like this would come out ever since I learned how Modafinil worked.

Not as effective as Z-drugs or benzodiazepines for treatment of insomnia. There are limited studies on orexin antagonists. What are your subjective effects? Is it a relaxing or is it like a wave of grogginess?

This class of medications that act on orexin is a joke. They were barely able to get belsonra approved and even then, reports showed that subjects only slept 6 mins longer on average while still dealing with morning grogginess
